HOW TO EXTRACT MONTH NAME AND DAY NAME FROM DATE IN EXCEL

We have given dates in Excel and we need to extract Month Name and Day Name from given date, manual typing and referring to a calendar is big task, with the help of TEXT function you can easily extract the the Month Name like "January" and Day Name Like "Sunday" from a date.

Example to Extract the Month Name:

Simply we need to type =TEXT(A2,"mmm"), it will return the month name as "Jan" and if we need full month name then we have to right the "mmmm" (4 times 'm' instead of 3 times)   then it will return the month name as "January".

Example to Extract the Day Name:

Simply we need to type =TEXT(A2,"ddd"), it will return the day name as "Sun" and if we need full day name then we have to right the "dddd" (4 times 'd' instead of 3 times)   then it will return the day name as "Sunday".
